Doing Nothing

"What are you doing?"

Really, is there anything called doing nothing? I was of the opinion nothing means "not doing what you are supposed to do", like doing nothing could mean not working at the time of work. But I was wrong.

Nothing actually means doing some activity which reduces your capacity to perform as good as you could before in tasks.

Let me explain, you are working, may be a programmer, and you are fairly good at it. But if you do not improve yourself over time by means of training etc, there is a good chance you will become used to only a particular type of programming and little change or upgrade will make you less efficient in your work. This is feel is doing nothing in your free time.

But doing nothing is the most easy thing to do, you just do things you are comfortable in and keep taking in the money, but sooner or later there will come a point in time when doing nothing will be regretted. As always there are exceptions to the rules, doing nothing is one of the most profitable ways of working for our public sector / Govt. offices.

So, a final advice to the people who are starting their career or stuck in a rut, start something its better than doing nothing.

Importance of Updated Technology

I bought a new phone lately...a Samsung Galaxy S3!!

(those who are not envious, mail me...i will send u in detail reasons why should be)

So coming back to the topic, I want to stress the importance of keeping in line with technology. for this let me explain with 3 examples -

a) Toaster:

Now technology for making your bread crusty has been there since ages (def of ages: before I was born), this has not changed much over the years or you could say has been perfected that not many changes are made. So even if you are using your 20 year old toaster (if it works in pristine condition) the quality of toast and mine from a new toaster will not be too far away.

b) Television:

Technology in T.V has been changing a lot, you can see almost a cycle of 7-10 years in T.V making any thing older than that look like prehistoric sets. Its not that the older sets will not work, you will still get channels from the antenna. But the difference in the quality of transmission in 20 year old CRT TV and a new full HD and blah blah blah LED TV will be unmistakable.

c) Mobile Phones:

I guess all of us might remember the first mobile phones when they were launched. Huge bulky thing looking like walky talkies. It might seem ages before but they are hardly 10 years before. Technology for mobile phones is updating it self every 6 months and in a of year your new mobile will feel slow and in a couple it will just be unacceptable.

My point is for a toaster like things you do not need a new one(unless the old one gets conked up), for a thing like T.V u need to update it once a while, while things like mobile phones you need to keep buying away.

This brings to my view you need to buy the best technology available for categories b) and c). And the reason for this is even if the best might be expensive than the one u might buy, it will keep u feeling on top o the world till the next cycle. It becomes 'Neighbor's Envy and Owner's Pride'. A practical reason is that you will be in the top of the replacement cycle, that means you may need to update a bit later consequently get a better product in the next cycle.

Disclaimer: I tried writing this post as much boring as possible. :D

Ridiculous Movies

Disclosure: I am a movie fan and can appreciate most kind of movies.

I watch a movie in theater almost every week and may be few in my laptop or TV. Just to be clear if my boss reads this, I have never watched a movie in office / at work (excluding my time I was stand-by at offshore). My point of this blog is that most of the movies I have seen range from average to downright disgusting. This is not about me being in a mood of serious cinema watch a cheap humour flick and say it’s a bad movie. No. I usually watch a movie with no expectation with just one aim, I have to be entertained. I should be able to laugh / cry / stunned / surprised / shocked anything, but should be entertained by the time the final credits roll. But this simple requirement is not so simple. Most of the movies or I say movie makers loose the plot in the middle of the movie. Most of them start kinda in a fun way but then end as a dampener. Don’t people watch movies before releasing them?? Or is it like we are already spending so much money lets release it and let the poor bastard suffer! Let me give some statistics (a la Aamir Khan) to explain what I mean to say –

It is evident that stupid movie folk have no idea about the movies they make, let keep making it year on year.

Maybe its people like me who are stupid enough to watch a movie every week
